Boys & Girls Clubs

Members of our club host an annual Christmas party for the Boys & Girls Clubs. Since 1966, the organization has been at the forefront of youth development, serving thousands of Wake County young people from age 6 to 18 with a safe after school environment. The Boys & Girls Clubs provide a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, and life enhancing programs and character developing experiences that give young people opportunities to be successful in life and become productive members of society.

Diaper Drive

In partnership with The Diaper Train at Saint Saviour's Center, since 2014 we have held an annual Diaper Drive to collect diapers, baby wipes, and children’s books. Our donations help provide some of the basic needs of young children. Since 2011, The Diaper Train has distributed more than 3 million diapers to low income families in Wake County. The program assists over 1,100 children each month through donations and the hard work of volunteers.

Dictionary Project

Our club participates in an annual division wide project to buy and distribute dictionaries to third grade students in the local cummunity. Students are given the dictionaries to keep and use as their own personal reference books. Dictionaries are essential tools for a quality education, and students cannot do their best work without them. A dictionary in the home serves as a resource for the whole family. It improves everyone's vocabulary and encourages children to learn more words.

Fight Hunger Food Drive

Since 2010, we have sponsored an annual Fight Hunger Food Drive in partnership with Urban Ministries of Wake County. Urban Ministries is a nonprofit human service organization that alleviates the effects of poverty in Wake County by meeting people’s basic needs for food, shelter, and healthcare, providing services that promote self-sufficiency, and building awareness of the issues of poverty within the larger community.

Kiwanis One Day

Each year, Kiwanis Clubs around the world join in a global day of service as part of Kiwanis One Day. The entire Kiwanis family is united in performing nearly a million hours of service around the world in just one day. The energy, commitment, and camaraderie surrounding this single day make the experience of hands-on service even more gratifying for our members as they make an immediate, measurable impact on the community.

Read and Feed

We donate books to Read and Feed in honor of the speakers at our weekly meetings.

Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen

Since 1986, our club members have volunteered to help serve at the Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen, located at the Church of The Good Shepherd, 125 Hillsborough Street in downtown Raleigh. The Shepherd's Table has been in operation since 1980 and serves a hot lunch to about 300 people Monday through Friday.

The Eliminate Project

The second Kiwanis International Worldwide Service Project was announced in June, 2010. Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces for The Eliminate Project to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT), a disease that results in the painful death of thousands of newborn babies and mothers each year. The initial goal was to raise $110 million to provide vaccines for more than 100 million mothers and their future babies throughout the world.

In March, 2012, our club voted to participate in The Eliminate Project as a 100K Club with a fundraising goal of $100,000. We reached our goal in September, 2014, and our current total in 2018 is $110,766.

Kiwanis International reached the fundraising goal of $110 million in 2016, but our job is not done yet. We are determined to finish what we started and provide additional funds for vaccines to eliminate MNT in the last remaining countries where it exists.

The Salvation Army

We donate surplus food from our weekly meetings and provide volunteers for the soup kitchen at The Salvation Army of Wake County. One of the largest charitable and social service organizations in the world, The Salvation Army has been serving the people of Wake County since 1887. The organization provides food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, and many more services to assist those in need.

SERVICE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

Aktion Club

Aktion Club is an organization for adults living with disabilities who desire to become leaders in the community and provide service to others.

We sponsor the Aktion Club of Greater Raleigh, chartered in 2008. If you, a family member, or a friend are interested in joining, please contact us or visit an Aktion Club meeting, held on the first Thursday of every month, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, Calvin Building room 203, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh NC 27608.

Builders Club

Builders Club is the largest service organization in the world for middle school and junior high students. Members learn to work together and develop leadership skills as they serve their schools and communities.

We sponsor the Builders Club at Martin Middle School, chartered in 2015.

Circle K International

Circle K International is a Kiwanis organization devoted to involving college and university students in campus and community service while developing quality leaders and citizens. Emphasis is placed on service, leadership, career development, and fellowship. Circle K members are inspired to better the world through projects on campus, in the community, and on a global scale.

We sponsor Circle K at North Carolina State University, chartered in 1961.

Key Club International

Key Club International is a Kiwanis organization for high school students that conducts an active program of service in the school and community. Its objectives include the development of initiative, leadership, and good citizenship, and it is the largest high school service organization in the world.

We sponsor the following Key Clubs:

   Athens Drive High School, chartered in 1987
   Broughton High School, chartered in 1991
   Enloe High School, chartered in 1993
   Raleigh Charter High School, chartered in 2019
   Vernon Malone College & Career Academy, chartered in 2018
   Wake Early College of Health and Sciences, chartered in 2013

PAST PROJECTS

IDD

In 1994, Kiwanis International announced its first Worldwide Service Project, in partnership with UNICEF, with a goal of eliminating iodine deficiencey diseases (IDD) throughout the world. Nearly $100 million was raised, and IDD projects were funded in 95 nations. The project has been heralded as one of the most successful health initiatives in the world. Our club reached our goal of $75,000 in 1999 and eventually raised $101,000.

Habitat for Humanity

In 1996-1997, our club sponsored the financing and construction of a Habitat for Humanity house on Spaulding Street in Raleigh. The total cost of $46,800 was paid for with $30,000 in contributions from 115 of our members, $2,000 from an Athens Drive High School Key Club fundraiser, and $14,800 from the Raleigh Kiwanis Foundation. 60 of our members worked on the house along with students from our sponsored Key Clubs and other groups.

Victory Junction

In 2004-2005, we raised $51,540 to help build a Kiwanis Cabin and provide camperships at Victory Junction. Located in Randleman, North Carolina, the summer camp enriches the lives of children aged 6 to 16 who have chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun and empowering, in a medically sound environment. The program offers a week of exhilarating, challenging and nurturing fun under comprehensive, but unobtrusive, 24 hour medical supervision.
